Xandria tragically passed away on the evening of May 7, leaving behind family, friends, and a community in shock. In response to her passing, the school district has made counseling services available to students and families who may need emotional support in the wake of this tragedy.
The circumstances surrounding Xandria’s death remain unclear, with Wayne Enders, administrator of the Portage County Coroner’s Office, stating that she was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital after the accident. However, the specific details of the event are still under investigation by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, and no further information has been made available to the public.
In a message sent to parents on May 8, the Ravenna School District shared the devastating news that Xandria had passed away the previous evening. Superintendent Ben Ribelin informed families that the student was a girl from West Main Elementary, and efforts were immediately set in motion to provide support to students and staff.
“We wanted to inform our families in case your child comes home and shares this sad news,” the message stated. It was also announced that the Portage County Crisis Team had been dispatched to the school on May 8 and would return on May 9 to continue offering support and counseling to students in need.
The Crisis Team is composed of trained professionals who specialize in helping students cope with difficult emotions, and they are conducting activities aimed at helping children process grief. Students who are struggling to manage their feelings of loss are encouraged to reach out to the team for support. Parents have been urged to contact the school if they feel their child may benefit from one-on-one sessions with a counselor.
