A lifelong resident of Claiborne Parish, Suzanne was known for her dedication to education, her compassionate heart, and her unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Suzanne’s life was a reflection of service in its highest form. For over three decades, she worked tirelessly in Homer’s public school system, where she touched the lives of countless students. Whether in the classroom or beyond, Suzanne was a mentor and role model for young minds, guiding them with patience, kindness, and a deep sense of purpose. Her impact extended far beyond the lessons she taught in school; she instilled in her students a love for learning and a commitment to helping others.
Beyond her professional life, Suzanne was an active and dedicated member of her local church. A public celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Homer, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Gerald Thomas will officiate the service, and Suzanne will be laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Newell family asks that donations be made in Suzanne’s memory to the Homer Women’s Shelter or the Claiborne Parish Library Foundation—organizations that Suzanne was deeply passionate about and supported throughout her life.
